THE ECOLOGICAL FARMER

ED HAMER

ECOLOGICAL FARMER
Chagford, Dartmoor

One of a new breed of young farmer, Ed Hamer runs a community-supported farm funded by local villagers. In return for their annual membership fee, Ed and his team delivers vegetable, flower and herb boxes, often by horse and cart.

Most of the work is done by hand, along ecological principles to maintain the health of the soil. Ed’s trusty vintage tractor, pictured, is used for tilling and cultivation.

“Community-supported farming puts me directly in touch with the people who eat my produce. It means everyone shares in the rewards - and risks - of farming,” he says.
